Jack Petchey Awards

This term two or our Youth dancers received their Silver Jack Petchey Award.  Congratulations to Harvey and Emily, here is why our Co-Artistic Director, Natasha Britton, nominated them:

Harvey has lots of energy and when we first met him he would often become distracted. He would also be very shy about people watching him and would face away from an audience. Harvey is now really settled in the group and the live music especially appeals to him. He often hums along to tunes and seems mesmerised and calmed by the music. Harvey has become more confident dancing in front of an audience and for the first time is working towards a big stage performance. In rehearsals and for smaller performances for friends and family he has been dancing facing the audience which is a really big development.

Emily has been really focused and hard working in class. We have seen a big development in her ability to remember movements and also in her willingness to contribute ideas to our dances. Emily’s positivity and commitment is inspiring to her peers and we hope she continues to develop and thrive.

The Jack Petchey scheme is a reward and recognition initiative which enables schools and youth organisations to celebrate the achievements of their young people as well as receive additional funding.

“We do it because we want to help young people raise their aspirations, believe in themselves and make a contribution to their society” said Sir Jack Petchey CBE.

Thanks to the Jack Petchey Foundation for supporting Magpie Dance and well done again to our Youth dancers Harvey and Emily.

One Dance UK Awards 2018

The One Dance UK Awards recognise the inspirational work of the many talented and committed professionals working in the dance sector.  It celebrates the excellent work of dance artists, teachers, practitioners, educators, schools, choreographers, companies, venues, scientists, and writers who contribute to the dance sector throughout the UK.

We are delighted that Magpie Dance’s General Manager, Laura Graham, was nominated for the ‘Dance Advocacy Award’ and Magpie Dance Facilitator, Georgia Poole, was nominated for the ‘Rising Star Award for Dance Teaching’.  Both Laura and Georgia attended an award ceremony last weekend (Saturday 24th November at Leeds University) at the One Dance UK Awards and mingled with people in the industry – an opportunity to unite, celebrate, acknowledge and recognise the people who have made an impact on the vibrant UK dance landscape.  Congratulations to both Laura and Georgia who were shortlisted to the final three in their categories in these national prestigious awards.
