In April, the Magpie Dance team received some brilliant news; Dame Darcey Bussell had chosen our dancers to be part of the British Ballet Charity Gala! As you can imagine, the team were incredibly excited to tell the dancers and begin creating work.
The British Ballet Charity Gala event was created by Dame Darcey Bussell to raise awareness of dance and the arts following the pandemic, and to raise funds for Britain’s ballet industry. The Gala was one of the first big live performances since the COVID-19 pandemic, it premiered at the Royal Albert Hall on Thursday 3rd June 2021 and was hosted by Dame Darcey Bussell herself, and Strictly Come Dancing’s Ore Oduba.
The event saw Britain’s most renowned ballet companies, all performing their repertoire live on stage for the first time. They were featured alongside other dance organisations, such as Magpie Dance who presented dance videos as part of the finale.
The Magpie Dancer Development Course participants worked incredibly hard, putting in extra rehearsals every Friday morning to create the perfect choreography for the big finale. We’re delighted that their finale piece was shown alongside a myriad of dance organisations; including Britain’s main ballet companies Ballet Black, Birmingham Royal Ballet, English National Ballet, New Adventures, Northern Ballet, Rambert, Scottish Ballet and The Royal Ballet.
It doesn’t stop there; Magpie Dance’s Join the Journey video will also be part of the British Ballet Gala streaming package. This exclusive link is available to purchase from the English National Ballet at Home and Royal Opera House Stream, and is live for one month only from 18th June 2021.
