About Magpie

NEW! Find out the latest Term Dates for the Youth Group and Adult Community Classes.

Magpie Dance is an inclusive contemporary dance company and has carved out a national reputation for its exciting and inspiring approach to inclusive and creative dance. Based in Bromley, at The Churchill Theatre, we are accessible to all surrounding boroughs and can deliver workshops to any region in the UK.

Founded in 1986 by Artistic Director Avril Hitman, Magpie continues to grow and is at the forefront of dance for people with learning disabilities. Our ethos is informed by an emphasis on ability rather than disability.

‘The high regard in which Magpie Dance is seen as a major contributor in the field of inclusive dance for young people with disabilities'
Wates Foundation, Magpie Funder, Youth Group

Performances have taken place far and wide, from Sadler’s Wells and Laban to local churches, the streets of Brighton to Trafalgar Square, The Royal Albert Hall, Hextable Dance, and The Churchill Theatre, Bromley. We have also developed an innovative programme of community, training and education work plus a ground-breaking mentoring programme, benefiting people of all ages with learning disabilities.
